Professional golfers Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, and Graeme McDowell were fined £100,000 each for violating the Tour’s Conflicting Tournament Regulation in June 2022, when they participated in a LIV Golf event near London without obtaining a release from DP World Tour boss Keith Pelley. The other golfers who participated in the event and were fined have paid up, but Garcia has not paid his fine nor indicated that he plans to. The DP World Tour has warned that appropriate action will be taken if Garcia does not respect the Sport Resolutions panel’s decision. Westwood, who has already paid his fine, expressed disappointment that the DP World Tour is now fully in bed with the PGA Tour, given the Strategic Alliance between the two tours. He believes that the top 10 players on the tour, not already exempt this year, have a pathway to the PGA Tour, which is giving away the tour’s talent. The DP World Tour will announce further sanctions for players who violate the Conflicting Tournament Regulation by participating in conflicting events next week.
