Richard Laganier, rector of the academic region and of the Nancy-Metz Academy, chancellor of Universities, was on the move on Wednesday morning near Florange, at the Louis-Pasteur college. This visit is part of the passage of the tests of the Timss evaluation (Trends in mathematics and science study).
Two classes from the Floorange establishment are involved in this international study, a training session was organized for each of them, in the presence of the mayor, Rémy Dick, Olivier Cottet, academic director of the national education services, David Couvert, Inspector of National Education, Philippe Deschamps, Sub-Prefect of Thionville, and Frédéric Joseph and Céline Lindemann, Principal and Deputy Principal of Louis-Pasteur College.
L’inclusion
The two classes concerned, one from fourth general, one from Segpa, have already taken part in this kind of training. “They begin to reassure themselves as the rehearsals progress,” says Kévin Lemoine, a mathematics teacher. Between now and the final evaluation, on May 16 and 17, the future representatives of France for the Timss evaluation will repeat this mock test two more times. “It’s important for them to prepare, so that they are comfortable and pass the tests as well as possible. They were keen to do well in the context of this preparation,” says Richard Laganier.
A feeling shared by Sonia Remdane, teacher at Louis-Pasteur College, who supervises the Segpa class. “We realized, as the preparation progressed, that they took a liking to it. In terms of inclusion, this is an important point, because it shows that they want to pass the evaluation to be a bit like the others. They will be part of the 6,200 national representatives, spread over 161 schools, for this study to interpret the differences between education systems in order to improve teaching and learning. The results will follow in 2024.
