“14 killed, 25 injured in Egypt bus-truck collision: Blood donations urgently needed”

14 people were killed and 25 injured in a collision between a public transport bus and a truck in the New Valley Governorate, southwestern Egypt, on Wednesday evening.

Reuters quoted security and medical sources as saying that 14 people were killed and 25 injured in a collision between a public transport bus and a heavy transport truck in the Negev area on the Kharga-Assiut road in the New Valley Governorate.

The sources stated that the injured were transferred to Al-Kharga Specialized Hospital.

She added that a security notification was received by the Director of New Valley Security, stating that a seven o’clock bus belonging to the Upper Egypt Transport Company collided with a heavy transport truck, and the bus was coming from Dakhla and heading to Cairo.

17 ambulances and civil defense units were dispatched to transport the dead and injured from the accident site.

An invitation to donate blood

The authorities in the New Valley governorate called on residents to donate blood.

And the governorate’s documented page on Facebook wrote: “We call on the citizens to support the efforts of aiding the injured in the accident, by donating blood at the regional blood center at Al-Kharga Specialist Hospital.”

Following the terrible accident, the Governor of the New Valley, Major General Muhammad Al-Zamlot, decided to stop the movement of heavy transport vehicles on the Dakhla / Kharga / Assiut road from 8 pm to 7 am, starting today, Thursday, May 4.

The governor stressed that this comes in order to preserve the lives of citizens, “given the recurrence of road accidents resulting from the recklessness of some drivers of heavy transport vehicles.”
