“Low Uptake of Second Covid-19 Booster Vaccine in Ireland Falls Short of HSE Target”

The uptake of the second covid-19 booster vaccine in Ireland has fallen far short of the HSE’s target. Only 26% of eligible adults have taken the booster since it was rolled out in January, well below the 75% target. However, compared to the European average of 14.3%, the uptake in Ireland is over 10% higher. Prof. Martin Cormican of the University of Galway attributes this low uptake among under-40s to a perception of the virus being less dangerous than before. But the uptake is significantly higher for those over 65, with over 80% having received the booster. Protect yourself and others by getting your second booster dose to increase your immunity against covid-19. A 75% uptake rate is necessary to combat new variants such as the kraken strain of the omicron variant, which accounts for the majority of documented cases in Ireland.
