Mark Borowiecki, a veteran defenseman, has made the decision to retire from hockey after playing over 450 games over parts of 12 NHL seasons. Borowiecki, who is 33 years old, shared his decision through an Instagram post. It has been more than six months since Borowiecki’s last professional game which resulted in him being stretchered off the ice due to an awkward hit into the boards during a game against Philadelphia on October 22. After being hospitalized and put on injured reserve, he did not play again. Borowiecki, who is known more for his hitting and toughness than scoring, spent the vast majority of his NHL career with his hometown Ottawa Senators before finishing his final two-plus seasons with the Nashville Predators. In his 468 regular-season and playoff games, Borowiecki scored a total of 56 points. Through his Instagram post, Borowiecki stated that he is excited for a new chapter in the hockey world and is looking forward to finding new opportunities to help grow the game and develop other players.
