A 41-year-old man from Lokstedt has molested several children in Eimsbüttel in recent days. That was announced by the police. On Tuesday afternoon he is said to have approached a girl in Pinneberger Weg and a boy in Fruchtallee with clear sexual intentions.

When a supermarket employee noticed the latter incident, he stepped in and prevented further action. A short time later, the police arrested the alleged perpetrator.

stroked children’s heads without being asked

For some time now, the news has been circulating among Eimsbüttel parents that a man in the neighborhood is trying to touch children. There was talk of unpleasant encounters and conspicuous behavior.

When asked by the Eimsbütteler Nachrichten, the police confirmed yesterday that several such cases had been reported. Specifically, the man is said to have photographed children in a daycare center on Brahmsallee and picked up a child on Gärtnerstrasse that was accompanied by his mother. He also stroked the heads of daycare children on Hoheluftchaussee. According to the police, the man was often drunk.

Attempted sexual assault

Since this was inappropriate behavior, but presumably not a criminal offence, the police had not arrested the man. This has changed now.

On Tuesday, the man from Lokstedt addressed two other children between the ages of six and eight. Around 2 p.m. he expressed sexual intentions to a girl on Pinneberger Weg, according to a police spokesman. The child then ran away. A short time later, a similar incident happened with a boy in Fruchtallee, whereupon the police were alerted.

The man is now in custody for attempting sexual assault.

Say “no” out loud

The 41-year-old is no longer a threat for the time being. Nevertheless, the question remains: How do children, parents and daycare workers behave when a stranger speaks to or touches children?

A police spokesman explains: “Children and adults should verbally defend themselves in such situations and say ‘no’ out loud.” It is important to draw attention to yourself.

The police spokesman advises parents of school children who walk to school alone to discuss rules of conduct with the children. For example, walking the way to school together and clarifying possible emergencies. These can be cafés or shops where children without a smartphone can ask for help in an emergency. Another tip: walk to school together in groups.
