Tesco is reducing the cost of its own brand butter by 40 cents from May 4th, with the price of a 454g block now set to be €2.99. Tesco’s decision follows similar moves by Lidl, Supervalu, and Aldi, which cut the cost of two litres of milk by 10 cents last week. The company said their reduction in retail milk prices had encouraged them to make further cuts to assist with households’ staple costs. All of the Tesco own brand butter sold in Ireland is 100% Irish sourced from Irish farms, however, the Irish Farmers Association raised concerns about reductions in producer prices.
