“Tesco and Aldi Cut Butter Prices in Response to Cost-of-Living Crisis”

Tesco and Aldi have announced price cuts on their own brand butter, with the former reducing the cost of its 454g pack by 40 cents to €2.99 from tomorrow. Tesco will also slash the price of its 227g pack to €1.85. The move follows last week’s announcement by Lidl, Tesco, Aldi and SuperValu that the price of two litres of milk would drop by 10 cents. However, farmers have warned of a resulting price war and say they are near breaking point. Staples such as milk, butter and eggs have increased in price significantly over the last year, outpacing overall food inflation.
