“Exploring the East Coast in the Kia Niro EV: A Road Trip Adventure”

Between the huge SUVs and the big American pick-ups, the Kia does not clash. And for good reason, the United States represents the largest market for the Korean brand. A Niro almost like at home, very comfortable on the highway along the Hudson River and taking us to Bear Mountain Park, in other words Bear Mountain.

We leave New York State for Connecticut on Interstate 95, a 3,101 km route that runs all along the East Coast… and mentioned by Bruce Springsteen in his song “ Working on the Highway ».

Delayed by a traffic jam on Interstate 95, we decide to branch off and return to the lands of New England near Weston. The ideal place to judge the dynamic qualities of the Niro.

After a little over 200 km of travel and a battery still more than half full, we decide to go through the charging box. A little precaution never hurt!

In this exercise, the Niro is not the best since it only accepts 84 kW of power in fast charge, i.e. the possibility of recovering 80% of the battery in 43 minutes, less well than the competition… And on a 11 kW socket, allow 6 hours to be fully charged!

Batteries and bellies full, it’s time to resume our journey towards New Haven, a city known for its famous Yale University. One of the most prestigious in the United States where we have an appointment with three of the 11,000 students on this big campus!

We leave it to the future automotive engineers of the Bulldog Racing Team to direct us to our next stop, Rhode Island, the smallest state in the USA and one of the most densely populated.

Head for Newport, former summer residence of the White House under Roosevelt and Kennedy. With its huge properties inspired by French castles, its marina and its big boats.

The time has come to discover the last state of our road trip, Massachusetts and its superb peninsula of Cape Cod, a favorite vacation spot for New Englanders. A quiet peninsula with picturesque landscapes perfect for talking about the very zen interior of the Niro.

Come on, let’s go to the last part of our journey, the Boston agglomeration and its 6 million inhabitants. An urban landscape different from New York with in particular many buildings from the colonial era, and more rare in the USA, non-straight streets.

Speaking of numbers, the Niro EV is moving upmarket and increasing its prices. From €45,000, excluding the €5,000 bonus and up to €48,000 in our over-equipped Premium version, only eligible for the small €2,000 bonus. Our advice would therefore be to favor the intermediate version, already well equipped and subject to the maximum bonus.
