Vyacheslav Zaitsev

On April 30, Vyacheslav Zaitsev passed away. Although the last years of his life, the couturier was sick, his departure still shocked many people. It is difficult to briefly describe what contribution the fashion designer made to the development of first the Soviet, and then the Russian fashion industry. Recently, Zaitsev has been little remembered. Many people started talking about the designer again only after the release of the Red Queen series in 2015.

This action-packed serial film was dedicated to another legendary person – model Regina Zbarskaya, who during her lifetime was called “the most beautiful weapon of the Kremlin” and “Soviet Sophia Loren”. Vyacheslav Zaitsev appears in the film only at the very end, when both the career and the glory of Zbarskaya come to an end. The character played by the artist Vasily Tsygantsov is not so much in the tape itself. However, each appearance even then just Slava Zaitsev was bright.

Unlike his real prototype, Tsygantsov’s hero turned out to be even too handsome, although against the background of Zbarskaya and the others, he looked rustic. However, already at that moment, at the dawn of his career at the Fashion House, Zaitsev stood out from the crowd. And the natural exaltation only added charm to the serial Vyacheslav Mikhailovich.

Vasily Tsygantsov as Slava Zaitsev

So, many viewers remembered the episode where the fashion designer was ready to cancel the entire show due to one mistake, but thanks to Regina he quickly found a way out. “My queen!” shouted Gygantsov-Zaitsev enthusiastically, almost dancing around Zbarskaya. Such a famous designer was shown in the series. And here is what the late Vyacheslav Mikhailovich himself said about this project:

“A wonderful person, a wonderful girl, a wonderful model. We were neighbors, I often visited her. She was very smart, very romantic, in love with Leva Zbarsky. She lived only for them.

Later, when she experienced a personal tragedy and left the hospital, she came to get a job with me at the Fashion House. She was so insecure, she thought she didn’t deserve the attention that we all tried to show her. In general, Regina had a lot of complexes

There is an image of Glory in the film, like my image, which has absolutely nothing to do with me. Those who have seen the film and know me are outraged because everything is a lie. And Regina is no prostitute. The picture should not be allowed to the screens. Regina is one of the best domestic models. Traveled abroad, always enjoyed success. I completely made an American collection on it in 1969. Today, she would be called a top model.”
