(CNN) — Paris Saint-Germain decided to suspend Lionel Messi for two weeks, after the latter’s unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia away from the team, to conduct personal business, according to a French club source.
CNN has reached out to the Argentine star’s representatives for comment.
The source said that the 35-year-old player missed the team’s training session, last Monday, to attend promotional events outside France, and Messi is currently in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Ministry of Tourism had chosen the star of the “Tango” team as an ambassador for tourism in the Kingdom.
And the Saudi Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Al-Khatib, said on Twitter: “I am pleased to welcome Messi and his family to Saudi Arabia to enjoy charming tourist destinations and authentic experiences,” and attached his tweet with pictures of Lionel Messi and his family.
Al-Khatib added, “We welcome visitors from all over the world to experience a unique trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its hospitality,” while Messi posted on Instagram, 3 days ago, a promotional advertisement for Saudi tourism, and commented, “Who would have thought that Saudi Arabia has a lot of green environment?” ?.. I like to explore its unexpected wonders whenever I can.”
It is noteworthy that the Parisian club will face Troyes and Ajaccio in the next two weeks.
And with the participation of the star, who won 7 golden balls, Paris Saint-Germain lost from Lorient by 1/3 last Sunday, but remained at the top of the French first division table.
