Workers and unions march this May 1, to demand salary demands

Unions, unions and public administration workers mobilized this Monday, May 1, Labor Day, in the different states of the country, requesting better wages and decent pensions.

In the state of Lara, the concentration began at 09:00 in the morning, in the Plaza Los Ilustres, located on Av. Vargas, in the center of Barquisimeto.

The Trade Union Network of Venezuela mobilized from Chacaíto to Plaza Venezuela from 9:00 am. The demonstration demanded an improvement in working and salary conditions. The non-governmental organization (NGO) Monitor Salud reported that staff from 17 health centers in Caracas participated in the protests.

Meanwhile, the Union of Workers of the Central University of Venezuela (SINATRA-UCV) called for a march that started from the Nuestra Señora de Coromoto church, in El Paraíso, to the Concepción Palacios Maternity Hospital on Avenida San Martín.

Another protest was called by the National Coordination of Pensioners and Retirees of Venezuela. The demonstrators gathered in the Plaza Morelos de Bellas Artes, a few meters from the Ombudsman’s Office.

Various unions also participated in a march in the city of Maracaibo, Zulia state. The demonstrators walked from the Plaza de Las Madres to the headquarters of the Federation of Workers of Zulia.

In Bolívar state, the protests were led by the Guayana workers. The demonstrators demanded that democracy be recovered in Venezuela, the spokesmen for the unions argued that this would be the basis for rescuing closed companies and creating sources of employment.

Other states in which demonstrations were registered were Monagas, Barinas, Yaracuy, Carabobo and Portuguesa.
