Johannes Bitter has not missed a single HSVH game this season and has scored in all 26 games. The 40-year-old goalkeeper has been plagued by knee problems since February and often had to slow down in training. “I’ve done everything during the week since February to be fit for the game,” says Bitter, who, together with the HSVH medical team, decided to have surgery on the injured knee. “Looking ahead to the new season, now was the best time to have the surgery done,” says Bitter.
At the Asklepios Clinic, he underwent an arthroscopy on his right knee, which he injured badly 11 years ago and is now causing problems again. Among other things, the removal of free joint bodies should now improve.
Bitter goal: Fit for the new season
For the time being, Bitter has to walk on crutches and not put any strain on the operated knee. The exact aftercare plan will be determined this week. “The goal is for me to be there again at the start of the new season and to be able to fully participate,” says Bitter.
For the rest of the season, HSVH will go into the game with the goalkeeper duo Jens Vortmann, who is in really good shape again after a long injury-related absence and who already showed a strong performance in the last game against Göppingen, and U21 keeper Alexander Pinski .
“I’m firmly convinced that Jens and Pinski will do a great job and I wish both of them that they will help the team with good performances so that we can be satisfied with our performance at the end of the season and look back on a successful season can,” says Bitter.
