Freiburg (AP) – For coach Christian Streich, Bundesliga soccer club SC Freiburg is in an “exceptional situation” – but in a positive sense. “We are currently in areas that are not to be expected, and then it feels special,” said the coach before the two important duels with RB Leipzig in the DFB Cup on Tuesday (8.45 p.m.) and in the Bundesliga on Saturday (3:30 p.m.).
When the final of 2022 is repeated, the next trip to Berlin beckons and in the league the fourth-placed sports club could initially distance the Saxons with a win in the race for the Champions League places. “I have no idea how the boys did it,” said Streich at the press conference before the game. “We worked hard for everything and got a few things as gifts.”
In the cup, the Breisgauer showed mentality. In no game this season have they taken the lead before the 87th minute. “That’s a motivation, maybe I’ll tell you that again,” said Streich.
