With studios in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville and Washington DC, SiriusXM can now say it also has a home in Miami. The sound entertainment company has officially opened its “state of the art” broadcasting complex that will operate in South Beach. SiriusXM is also set to launch a new Latin pop channel, Hits Uno, on Friday (May 5), which will become the station’s 17th Spanish-language channel.
“I have been with the company for 15 years and when they told me we were going to open a state-of-the-art station in Miami, the center of Latin music, I was very excited,” he says. Bryant Pino, director of Latin music programming at SiriusXM, which hosted the likes of CNCO and Zion and Lennox during a studio preview launch in March. “As a company, we are doing things that are truly worthwhile and important, especially considering everything that is happening with Latin music right now.”
Revenues from Latin music in the United States reached an all-time high in 2022, surpassing the $1 billion mark, with growth of 24%, higher than the general market. According to the RIAA’s year-end Latin music report for 2022, total revenue increased from $881 million in 2021 to $1.1 billion, and Latin music’s overall share of the total music market grew from 5.9%. in 2021 to 6.9%.
Opening studios in Miami and launching a new Latin channel is an acknowledgment of the rise of culture, he says Azu OlveraMoreSiriusXM’s senior director of Latino talent and industry relations.
“We are not thinking of the Latino as something secondary, but as an engine of success and commitment. And when we came up with the concept for the new channel, we wanted to bring all these hits together on one channel that would reflect the diversity of the genre.”
During the days leading up to Hits Uno, SiriusXM will present special live shows, including an intimate performance by Carlos Vives, an interview with Pitbull and a conversation with Becky G with audience participation.
“With Hits Uno, we will be able to represent today’s Latin music fan,” adds Pino. “Before you were a rocker, or a reggaeton player, but not both. Now we love to be eclectic, to listen to everything. We are not a local radio station, this is not a Miami station, but a national platform, so we will expose people to global hits in all genres.”
The Howard Stern Show will broadcast live from the new Miami studios from Monday, May 1 through Wednesday, May 3. Stern, who has been working from his home for the past several years, will be joined live in the studio by special music and celebrity guests.
“Miami is an incredibly rich center for music and entertainment,” he said. Scott Greenstein, SiriusXM resident and chief content officer, in a statement. “SiriusXM Miami will capture the city’s unique culture and character and bring it to audiences across North America. We are thrilled that Howard is starting things off on the right foot with an exceptional three days of shows, followed by an stellar lineup that showcases the wide range of content we offer, including the diverse and vibrant music emanating from the Latinx community.”
