In 1975, a sharp turn took place in the career of the singer Alla Pugacheva. The artist received the Grand Prix at the Golden Orpheus International Competition in Bulgaria, and overnight became an all-Union celebrity. The triumph of the prima donna of the national stage is due to the composition “Harlekino”. The Russian text of this song was written by biochemist Boris Barkas.

There are several hits in the creative piggy bank of Barkas. For example, he was the author of the words to the rock opera “Stadium” by Alexander Gradsky, wrote songs for Alexander Buinov and “Time Machine”.

Unfortunately, the fate of Boris Barkas was tragic. In the 90s, the poet could not feed himself – scientific activity did not bring money. Boris’s wife died, he was left without an apartment. Barkas did not have his own housing, so for two years he wandered the streets, collected bottles, ate leftover food from the garbage dump, and became addicted to alcohol. As a result, the famous songwriter ended up in a homeless shelter.

According to producer Svetlana Kostyunina, at the orphanage Boris Barkas gave up alcohol and continued to write poetry. The poet decided to make money on creativity. He contacted familiar people from show business. The stars, meanwhile, took advantage of Barkas’ vulnerable position. They wiped their feet on a talented poet.

“He continued to buy his work. Another question is that it was not for the money that these works deserved. At that time, songs could cost from a thousand dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, but it was bought from him for 200-300 dollars. He was purely for survival, ”Kostyunina shared on the air of the NTV channel.

According to the producer, when selling his poems, Boris Barkas was forced to relinquish their authorship. Those were the terms of the deal. Svetlana said that one very famous Russian singer passed off Barkas’ songs as his own. The name of the cunning vocalist Kostyunina refused to name.

In 2007, the editors of showman Andrei Malakhov drew attention to Boris Barkas, who was in trouble. The author of “Arlekino” was shown on the federal channel. On the air, Barkas met with Pugacheva. The prima donna helped Boris restore the documents and gave him an apartment. But the songwriter could not enjoy life in his own home. A few months after appearing on television, Boris Barkas died of heart failure.
