Dublin Airport faced cancellations and delays on Bank Holiday Monday due to the May Day French air traffic control strike. While Ryanair and Aer Lingus had notified passengers in advance of cancelled flights, some still turned up to the airport to rearrange trips. Between 25 and 35 flights to and from Dublin were affected, and cancellations were expected at Cork and Belfast airports as well. Michael O’Leary, the Ryanair boss, complained that France was disproportionately cancelling flights from countries other than France, indicating that French flights were being protected. The ATC strike is due to President Macron’s plan to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. Today’s strike is the 51st day of industrial action in recent months.
