The Fraport Skyliners from Frankfurt celebrated an important victory in the relegation battle and can still hope to remain in the basketball league.
Coach Klaus Perwas’s team defeated playoff contenders Würzburg Baskets 86:77 (37:35). Although Frankfurt is still in relegation rank 17 before the final week of the season, they increased their chances of being saved with two more victories in Crailsheim on Friday (8.30 p.m.) and in Göttingen on Sunday (3 p.m.).
Jordan Theodore (28 points) and Marcus Lewis (25) were the decisive forces in Frankfurt’s success, who want to avert the second relegation within twelve months. The former champion from Hesse received a wild card for the current season. Medi Bayreuth has already been relegated, the Skyliners still have to intercept one of the three teams in front of them (Weißenfels, Crailsheim or Braunschweig). With the defeat, the Würzburg team had to accept a serious setback in the fight for the playoffs.
Even before the game, the Hessians had announced the retirement of Quantez Robertson, who is currently absent due to injury, at the end of the season. The club will honor the veteran in a special way. The American’s jersey will be hanging next to Pascal Roller’s on the hall ceiling and the number 23 will no longer be assigned. In addition, Robertson, who has been active in Frankfurt since 2009, receives a farewell game.
