The least expected connection from the 1980s is quite possibly McLaren’s collaboration with Ford in the creation of the Ford McLaren Mustang SVP M81. It was planned to produce 250 pieces, but low public interest reduced the final number to just 10 pieces, which makes it a very rare specimen these days.
Due to the fuel crisis at the time, a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder Lima OHC was placed under the hood, which increased the McLaren Mustang from 133 to 177 hp and the torque increased to 210 Nm at 3,000 rpm. With a four-speed manual gearbox, the McLaren Mustang was able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds.
While the British McLaren took charge of the engine, Ford took care of the chassis. The crossover Mustang received modified stabilizers and adjustable shock absorbers as well as Koni suspension. The specific piece has traveled only 895 kilometers in its lifetime. We are no longer surprised that it looks like new.
The Mustang catches the eye at first sight with a combination of bright orange and gray exterior colors with the McLaren Mustang lettering on the doors. Unlike the classic Mustang, the front fascia lacks a grille, has wider fenders, a fiberglass hood and fifteen-inch BBS wheels shod with Cooper Cobra tires.
Inside, the McLaren Mustang made an impression with black Recaro racing seats and a Racemark steering wheel. The car also has a roll cage, Stewart Warner instrument alarms and a plaque on the dashboard with the car number.
At the time of production, the Ford McLaren Mustang SVP M81 cost around $25,000, which did not appeal to many customers more than 40 years ago. AT of this specimen it is expected that its selling price could rise to 100 thousand dollars (2.1 million crowns).
