The immunization campaign is carried out because there are boys and girls who were not vaccinated at the ages that corresponded to them and by reported cases of these diseases in other countries.
This Tuesday, May 2, 2023, the nationwide campaign against measles, rubella and polymyllitis. It is aimed at children from one to 12 years old.
Vaccination will begin in educational units and public and private childcare centers.
At the Caritas Alegres Child Development Center, located on Ferroviaria Alta, an informative talk was given for parents, this Friday, April 28, 2023.
A nurse explained that if a child is infected with any of these diseases, there will be a massive contagion that is difficult to control. “That is why it is better to prevent and protect the little ones,” she insisted.
Vaccines will be given even to children who have completed their vaccination schedule or who have been vaccinated a few months ago against these diseases. This is so that immunization is fully guaranteed.
The nurse reminded the parents that measles not only causes the outbreak of pimples on the skin, but can cause blindness, inflammation in the brain, intense diarrhea, ear infections and pneumonia, especially in malnourished children and patients with low defenses. .
Polymyelitis can cause paralysis, which leaves permanent sequelae and disability in children, and rubella causes the appearance of pink spots on the skin, fever, and swollen glands in the neck.
Where will the vaccines be applied?
Vaccines will be given in educational units and public and private child development centers.
For this, a letter of consent will be sent in which the parents will sign if they agree with the vaccination.
Personnel from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) will go to the institutions to place the vaccines.
In some institutions the letter has already been sent for parents to sign. This mentions the benefits of vaccination and asks if the child suffers from any allergies or if he is sick so as not to apply the dose.
Vaccinated children will receive a card containing the information, which must be kept.
The campaign will run until July 9. and the objective of the MSP is to reach a coverage of 95% of the population of children from 1 to 12 years of age.
What will the vaccination scheme be like?
The vaccination scheme will be given as follows:
1 year: one dose of oral Polio (bOPV)
2 to 5 years: two doses of injectable Measles and Rubella (SR) and oral Polio (bOPV).
6 to 7 years: three doses, one of Measles and Rubella (RS) injectable, Oral Poliomyelitis (bOPV) and Injectable Poliomyelitis (fIPV).
8 to 12 years: one dose of injectable Measles and Rubella (MR).
The reactions that the vaccine can cause are: pain, redness and swelling in the place where it was placed. These symptoms disappear without treatment within 48 hours.
Other infrequent reactions are: headache, fever, nausea or vomiting. If these do not disappear in 48 hours, a doctor should be consulted.
