“Japan Confirms over 70,000 New COVID-19 Cases Last Week”

Tokyo, May 1 (Jiji Press)—Japan confirmed 72,876 new cases of COVID-19 last week, about 5,800 more infections than the previous week.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases, including infections among cruise ship passengers and crew, reached 33,739,420 as of 10:00 a.m. Monday.

By prefectures, Tokyo was the one that registered the highest weekly number of positives with 10,392, followed by Hokkaidō, with 5,516, Osaka, with 5,219 and Kanagawa, with 5,182.

The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 increased by 157 compared to the previous week to 74,570.
