“Alleviating Cold, Influenza and Pneumonia: Municipal Health Service Plans for Influenza Vaccination Service in Schools”

Mayor Iván Arias reported this Sunday that the Municipal Secretary of Health and Sports is planning a vaccination service against influenza for next week, which will reach schools through the electric vehicles of the Médico en tu Casa program

“With Médico en tu Casa we are doing that, the mobile units, the Ministry of Health is designing a school-by-school tour for next week to vaccinate against influenza before the winter holidays,” Arias informed the Unitel network.

According to the burgomaster, the measure will serve to alleviate the substantial increase in cases of cold, influenza and pneumonia that have occurred in recent weeks. But he also pointed out that it is because the public is not taking care of themselves or proceeding to get vaccinated, not only against influenza but also against Covid-19.

“What happens is that people and citizens are not taking care of ourselves, look at these winters, full sun, we take off (our clothes), we wrap up, we enter the cold air and that hurts us and at night the temperature drops abruptly and we cannot protect ourselves. We are not taking care of ourselves, we are not drinking citrus fruits, there are a lot of citrus fruits at this time that people are not drinking, they prefer Coca Cola instead of drinking juices,” reflected Arias.

Regarding the amount of vaccines that exist in the municipality, Arias said that 2,500 were distributed to the municipal health services for the five municipal hospitals: La Portada, La Paz, La Merced, Los Pinos and Cotahuma.

He also clarified that if the doses run out, more can be requested, but it all depends on the demand for vaccines, which is low for now, despite the fact that cases of disease have risen.

“Parents do not vaccinate their children against influenza and they do not vaccinate them against Covid-19 either, we have doses for Covid-19 and people are not going to get vaccinated, it seems to me that at this point in the game, when we are already in the seventh wave, that people die or put their lives at risk because of Covid-19, is already the total irresponsibility of the citizen,” said the mayor.
