Ukrainian attack on Russian border village kills 2 people: Governor of Bryansk Region

Jakarta

Governor of the Bryansk region, Russia, said a pre-dawn Ukrainian attack on a Russian border village killed 2 people. Two other people were injured.

Reported AFP, Monday (1/5/2023), the attack on the village of Suzemka, located dozens of kilometers from the Ukrainian border, occurred after a suspected drone crashed into a fuel depot in Crimea annexed by Moscow.

“Two more civilians have been found and removed from the rubble. Unfortunately, both died,” Governor Alexander Bogomaz said via Telegram.

Bogomaz initially said two people were killed when Ukrainian troops opened fire. While 2 other villagers were taken to the hospital with injuries.

“Ukrainian soldiers opened fire on Suzemka,” Bogomaz said.

Bogomaz said Ukrainian shelling hit the village twice overnight and Russian air defenses had “shot down several shells”.

He said one bullet hit a resident’s house, starting a fire, and two other houses were damaged. Bogomaz said the village had declared a state of emergency.

“Work is continuing to remove debris,” he said.

“In areas where operational measures have been completed, a damage assessment commission has started work,” he added.

Russian villages in the Bryansk and Belgorod regions bordering Ukraine have been hit by a number of attacks since Moscow began its assault on Ukraine.
