Julia McSorley, a beloved grandmother-of-15 and great-grandmother-of-two, was laid to rest today after she tragically passed away in a car crash last week. Hundreds of mourners gathered at St Eugene’s Church in Glenock, Co Tyrone for her funeral mass. Julia was remembered as a dynamic and joyful woman who put everyone else before herself. She had a maternal bond with all children and young people she encountered, and her kindness brought a smile to everybody she met. Her generosity extended to strangers, always offering her time and possessions to those in need. Despite the pain she faced in her life, including losing many family members and battling cancer, she never let bitterness creep in and always showed forgiveness. The community is engulfed in grief over the loss of Julia, her niece, and nephew, and the hospitalization of four others. President Michael D Higgins’ representative attended the funeral to pay his respects to the family. Julia was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery, and the joint funeral of her niece and nephew will take place tomorrow.
