The Ambassador of Ukraine to Ireland is urging consumers to abstain from purchasing Jameson whiskey due to the brand’s resume of trade in Russia. Larysa Gerasko stated that it is a “matter of morality” for Irish establishments to decide whether or not they will continue to offer Jameson products. Despite Jameson’s claim of compliance with international sanctions and efforts to manage the risks of exiting Russia, Gerasko argues that companies who trade with Russia are ultimately financing the “Russian war machine.” She also suggests that it would be better for Jameson to move its employees to safer countries such as France or Ireland if they truly want to protect them. Pernod Ricard, the parent company of Jameson, faced a protest outside its Dublin offices by Ukrainian activists demanding to halt continued trade with Russia. Brands such as Absolut vodka reversed their decision to trade in Russia after Swedish farmers stopped supplying grain to Pernod Ricard.
