Wrestling Federation of India chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has recently been accused of sexually harassing women wrestlers. However, Singh denies the allegations and recently made a big claim about his innocence. He stated that one family and one wrestling arena were out to malign his image by making false complaints against him. Singh also claimed that 90 percent of the athletes and their guardians trust the wrestling federation, and the women who have complained against him are all from the same family and the same wrestling arena. Singh’s allegations have sparked protests, and several opposition leaders including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of the Congress and Arvind Kejriwal from the Aam Aadmi Party have visited the protesting wrestlers at Jantar Mantar to show solidarity. Singh also responded to Olympic bronze medalist Bajrang Punia, who had asked how the accused knew the identity of the complainants to claim they were all from the same family. Singh claimed that not only he, but the whole world knows about it. The Delhi Police has filed two cases against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, including one under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which gives no scope for bail. Singh reiterated that he was innocent and would cooperate with any inquiry as he trusts the judicial system and the probe agencies. Overall, the allegations against Singh have raised a lot of questions, and the truth behind the accusations is yet to be determined.
