Ukraine still has control over an important supply route into Bakhmut, but the situation is still very difficult in the city, says the country’s military.
– For several weeks, the Russians have been talking about taking control of the “route of life”, as well as gaining constant control over it. It is very difficult there, as they keep trying, but the defense forces have not allowed the Russians to cut off our logistics, says Serhiy Cherevatyi, spokesman for the eastern Ukrainian forces.
“Life’s route” is a road between Bakhmut and the nearby town of Tjasiv Jar in the west. There is approximately 17 kilometers between the two cities.
Russian forces have been trying for ten months to take over control of Bakhmut, a town that before the war had 70,000 inhabitants. Russia sees the city as a springboard to attack other cities.
