Limerick’s Riverfest drew in huge crowds this past weekend, making it the highlight of the bank holiday celebrations. The Riverfestival Village, located in Arthur’s Quay Park, was inundated with visitors, resulting in long queues of people. One of the many attractions of the festival was the barbecue competition held at Harvey’s Quay which saw House Limerick crowned the winner with a delectable chicken dish cooked with roast vegetables and barbecue chicken wings. The Metropolitan district leader, Cllr Olivia O’Sullivan, was present at the barbecue and commented that the city was buzzing during the event, which felt like the start of summer in Limerick. Other highlights included the Free Drop event at Castle Street, a stunning fireworks display over the river Shannon, and a performance by Hermitage Green at King John’s Castle. Sunday saw the return of the Regeneron Great Limerick Run, bringing thousands of people to the city’s streets once again. With so much to offer, it’s no wonder Riverfest was the talk of the town in Limerick.
