The relocation of Indonesia’s capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan presents challenges and opportunities for Jakarta to revitalize and develop into a global city that serves as the main hub of the world’s economic networks. Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono emphasized this in a statement released on Regional Autonomy Day 2023. He pointed out that regional autonomy is vital to ensure development and governance in Jakarta with numerous benefits, including improved public services, increased community participation, and autonomous management of taxes and fees for development programs. The Jakarta government is also focused on economic recovery and promoting the use of local products sustainably while reducing stunting prevalence in coordination with the Regional Leadership Communication Forum. The statement shows Jakarta’s commitment to boost its economic growth and development despite the relocation of the capital.
