Russia on Saturday threatened Poland with “tough” reprisals after confiscating a building in which a high school for the children of Russian embassy employees operated, a building whose confiscation Warsaw invokes a court ruling.

“The step taken by Warsaw, which comes out of a civilized interstate relationship, is so impudent that it cannot remain without an appropriate reaction for the Polish authorities and interests in Russia. This must be understood by the initiators of such provocative adventures,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. communicated.

Moscow considers the seizure of that building a “new hostile action” on the part of Poland and a “gross violation of the Vienna Convention” on diplomatic relations, as well as “an attack against Russian diplomatic properties in Poland.”

For its part, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that this confiscation comes “on the basis of a judicial decision that gives the Polish state ownership of this building, which the Russian embassy has illegally occupied for years.” The Polish MFA also states that the said building did not have diplomatic status, so it does not fall under the scope of the Vienna Convention.
