Mélany Cotrone is 31 years old and already has a great career as a cosplayer. Qualified for the French cosplay cup during the Mang’Azur fair last weekend, she will wear our colors for the final which will take place in Tours next year. With two other candidates from the region: one from Nice and the other from Marseille.
Heroine of a video game
The regional selection was hotly contested on the stage of the Mang’Azur convention. “We were five in competition: five girls but there had to be a boy who, unfortunately, fell ill. I was lucky to be chosen by the jury and the public”, she explains.
His character is from a hit video game: Fire Emblem Three Horses. “It’s about Edelgard with which I identified. Accessory, clothing, shoes… Everything was done by hand and represented two months of work. I am lucky to have a seamstress aunt who taught me the basics and technique. For my performance on stage, I had chosen a very feminist Beyoncé song! What I liked was that I had added interactive sets and an original light show. “
Marseille, Toulon and Nice: in a few weeks, three candidates will prepare for the grand final of the 2024 French cosplay cup in Tours. “Each region offers three candidates, so three different costumes. Since I was 17, I have been making outfits. Different each time”
Supported by the ministry
The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture, which has understood that cosplay is much more than a game of disguises, but a real culture that has passed very quickly from the margins to mainstream. The origin of cosplay is of course in Asia. Today, Europe and the United States have entered the dance.
On the stage of the Neptune Palace for the Mang’Azur, superheroes, heroes of comic strips, Korean or Japanese dramas competed in an atmosphere that was always relaxed and benevolent. Thus, rubbed shoulders on stage both the Snow Queen and a character from the game World of Warcraft!
Toulon will therefore follow the course of Mélany Cotrone until next year and the national final. In particular his work colleagues from the accounting firm in La Garde where Mélany works.
“Here I have already won a lot and I hope to create a surprise soon”, she adds.
