Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, affirmed, on Friday, that his country will continue, in cooperation with its partners, to enhance its scientific contributions in the field of space.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed said, via Twitter: “A historic week for the UAE space sector, during which the Hope Probe presented the clearest picture of the Mars moon Deimos, and witnessed the arrival of the Arabs to the closest point of the moon’s surface with the explorer Rashid, and Sultan Al Neyadi undertook the first Arab mission to walk in space. The Emirates will continue In cooperation with its partners, it will enhance its scientific contributions in the field of space.
The Emirati astronaut, Sultan Al Neyadi, became the first Arab to conduct the spacewalk, earlier on Friday, outside the International Space Station as part of the missions of Mission 69 on the station.
This mission, the fourth to walk in space this year, will include assigning Al Neyadi and fellow astronaut Stephen Bowie to perform basic tasks, according to the official Emirates News Agency (WAM).
It is expected that the journey of the two astronauts in space walking outside the station will take about 6 and a half hours, as they will work on maintaining and modernizing the station.
The main objective of this mission will be to change the radio frequency “RFG” unit that is part of the International Space Station’s “S-Band” communication system, in preparation for its return to Earth, according to “WAM”.
