Kleyce Dhones, a 38-year-old man from Daar River View in Gortboy, Newcastle West, was recently put off the road for six months after being caught driving under the influence of alcohol at a garda checkpoint in west Limerick. According to Inspector Gearoid Thompson, who prosecuted the case, Dhones was stopped by gardai at the checkpoint on February 29, 2021, after they noticed his erratic driving. He provided a reading of 33mgs of alcohol per 100mls of blood, which is a low reading, and had no previous convictions. However, he was still fined €500 and disqualified from driving for six months. Dhones, who pleaded guilty to the offence, was represented in court by Donal Cronin BL, who emphasized that his client was a man of good character with two dependent children, who was “ashamed and embarrassed” by his actions.
