Visayan Electric Company, the second-largest private electric utility in the Philippines, notes an increase in demand for power due to hot weather conditions. The total demand reached 614 megawatts in one particular day, surpassing the peak demand seen in 2019. While the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines issued a red alert status due to a system disturbance, and rotational brownouts were expected, the red alert status was lifted on Thursday night. Visayan Electric’s head of Reputation Enhancement advised consumers to conserve energy by maintaining their appliances and taking advantage of natural lighting.
