In recent months, we have been thinking about how many partial versions of Windows 10 Microsoft will send to the market. From the user’s point of view, it doesn’t matter, because the last few years the new major versions have already brought a minimum of news, and now the company is fully focused on the development of Windows 11, maybe even preparing “Windows 12”.
Now we know for sure that last year’s version 22H2 will be the last. It came out in October, and in November the Redmonds gave it the green light and sent it to wide distribution without giving any details about the new features. Microsoft sets the lifespan of each release at two years. Windows 10 support ends on October 14, 2025, which means there’s room for one final release this fall, a potential 23H2 release.
However, we won’t get to see it, because the 22H2 version will remain with us. Her the service life will be extended to three yearsi.e. until the aforementioned October 2025. Microsoft published the information in the form of a notice on the support website and mentioned it on one of its blogs.
Windows 10 will not see another major version
The above applies to the regular Home, Pro, Pro Education and Pro for Workstations editions, but also to the Enterprise and school Education editions. Long-term supported LTSC variants have their own set life cycles. Currently, Redmond supports two versions of Windows 10, with support for version 21H2 ending in June. Then only the one and the very last one will remain.
In total, Microsoft released fourteen partial versions of Windows 10, with the last four offering a minimum of new features that were also business-oriented. New versions were released twice a year, in the fall of 2021 the manufacturer changed his mind, saying that we are expecting updates once a year. After this change, only version 22H2 was released.
