“Behind Bars: Lucia Navrátilová’s Last Day Before Starting Her Prison Sentence”

Friday was definitely not one of the best that Lucie Navrátilová, known to many viewers as Spindíra Lucia from the popular reality show Wife Swap, has experienced. From the moment she opened her eyes, she knew it was her last morning free. In the afternoon, she was expected to start serving her sentence. A blonde woman who married a convicted murderer will serve a total of fifty-five days behind bars in the well-known Prague – Ruzyně prison.

At 1:55 p.m., our eXtra.cz team was waiting on the platform of the small Ruzyně railway station, where Lucie was supposed to arrive by train from where she lives. After the departure of two trains, from which the blonde did not get off, we began to doubt whether she had decided to avoid the start of her sentence. But finally she informed us, that she accidentally boarded a train going in the opposite direction and arrived by car with her friend right in front of the main gate of the prison.

After about half an hour of waiting in the rain, a petite blonde girl appeared, giving a quiet to shouted impression. She wore a clean outfit consisting of stylish ripped black jeans and a sporty spring jacket. She had a travel cable over her shoulder, in which she carried all the necessities, such as toiletries, underwear, magazines, and of course enough tobacco to exchange with the other female prisoners, who, with a little luck, will help her to improve a little during her stay behind bars.

Reason for conviction

Lucie, who shook hands with us to welcome us, was well aware that she had before her the last half hour of her free life, which she would spend in our company. She also agreed to share with us her concerns and the reason for her unconditional sentence.

The former participant of the Wife Swap threatened death via SMS to one of his acquaintances, and he reported her to the police. Lucie was obliged to pay a fine of 5 thousand crowns, she had 12 months to repay the amount, but still she was not able to pay the amount. According to her words, she agreed that rather than pay, he prefers to serve a total of 55 days in the penitentiary.

Even though Navrátilová tried to be brave, during the interview with our editor her eyes filled with tears several times and her voice choked in her throat, especially because of the fear of the unknown and the possible danger that may await her behind the prison walls. Of course, she was also sorry for the fact that she could not say goodbye to her children, who are now staying at a school in the countryside and were not allowed to talk to their mother on the phone.

A solitary prisoner

Even though Lucie is married to Michal, who has already served his sentence and “armed” his significant other with a series of tips on how to survive in a harsh environment, he did not accompany her to the gate of the Ruzyn prison. According to her, he did not have time because he was at work and it will be the same when she is released in June.

Before Lucie Navrátilová crossed the threshold of the prison gatehouse, there was also a touching hugif not with those closest to her, then at least with our editor who interviewed her.
