Aaron Rodgers’ trade to the New York Jets has sparked tremendous euphoria among team supporters, shared by club icon Joe Namath.
In an interview with ESPN, the 79-year-old gushed about Rodgers: “I’m a fan of his, man. […] He does things on the field that other quarterbacks just can’t do as consistently.”
He thinks it’s absolutely plausible that New York will get another Super Bowl under Rodgers’ leadership, said “Broadway Joe”: “He absolutely has what it takes. He can pull this team up. He’s one of the best players – one of the greatest player I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Rodgers is also so strong because he combines mental strength with athleticism and can “throw from almost anyone,” according to the Hall of Famer.
The Jets are seeking their first title since 1969 with Rodgers. Back then, Namath had led the team from the “Big Apple” to their only Super Bowl to date.
Like Rodgers in his Green Bay days, the 79-year-old wore the number 12, which the Jets have not given since his retirement.
Rodgers “a real gentleman”
Prior to the trade, however, he said he would not stand in the way of Rodgers wanting to wear the number.
At his inaugural press conference on Wednesday, however, he declared that he would forgo the twelve.
When asked about this, Namath said: “I’m humbled and full of respect for what he did, I swear. Because I stand by what I said: ‘If we can get Aaron, I promise he can wear my number. ‘ He [Rodgers] is a real gentleman.”
