Reddit has announced the launch of new chat channels that operate similarly to Discord. These chat channels will appear within specific subreddits, allowing users to engage in real-time conversations with one another while browsing posts related to various topics. Unlike previous chat features on Reddit, the new channels will be dedicated spaces that are specifically designed for ongoing conversations on specific subjects. The feature will be available exclusively on mobile and only for select subreddits during the initial testing period. According to Reddit, it has adopted a “mod-first approach” in developing the chat channels, giving moderators their own chat channels and tools to monitor and moderate chats effectively. In addition, Reddit has promised several upcoming moderation features, such as automod rules and slow mode, to ensure effective management of busy chat channels.
