Jakarta –
Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsev from his post. Nicknamed military generalJagal Mariupol’ had previously held the post of Deputy Defense Minister of Russia.
Reported by Newsweek and Daily Mail, Friday (28/4/2023), Mizintsev earned his reputation for heinous brutality in the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022. He committed acts of horror, including fatal attacks on theaters and hospitals giving birth in Mariupol, Ukraine.
Mizintsev was specifically linked to the bombardment of the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, which earned him the nickname ‘Jagal Mariupol‘. Moscow forces claim to have controlled Mariupol since May 2022.
Russian state media reported that Mizintsev was appointed Deputy Defense Minister for logistics in late September 2022. News of Mizintsev’s dismissal was rife by local media correspondents and Russian military bloggers this week.
One of them is Alexander Sladkov who is a correspondent for Russia’s state-run newspaper, Izvestia, who stated via his Telegram post that Mizintsev has now been ‘fired’ from his post.
“Mikhail Mizintsev has had an interesting fate this year,” Sladkov wrote in his post on Thursday (27/4) local time.
He called Mizintsev a “friend” and stressed that the Russian general had “no direct connection with the storming of the city” of Mariupol.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has yet to provide an official response to this report. However, the Russian Ministry of Defense did post a brief comment after news of Mizintsev’s dismissal emerged.
“The butcher will build a new slaughterhouse,” the Russian Ministry of Defense wrote in a statement via Twitter.
In a follow-up post, Sladkov said Alexei Kuzmenkov would replace Mizintsev in a logistics role at the Russian Defense Ministry. Kuzmenkov reportedly previously served as Deputy Chief of the Russian National Guard.
Russian military blogger WarGonzo also discussed Mizintsev’s dismissal in his Telegram post.
