“Tango & Fate: An Argentine’s Journey to Germany”

Director German Kral will present his film in person at the Lichtwerk and will be available to answer questions at the cinema talk after the film.

Argentina 2001: Julio Färber (Diego Cremonesi), owner of a small shoe shop in Buenos Aires and passionate bandoneon player in a tango orchestra, sees no other way out in the face of the omnipresent economic crisis and political chaos than to emigrate to Germany, the country of his mother’s birth . But then fate takes an unexpected turn. He meets Mariela (Marina Bellati) through a car accident. The spirited taxi driver gets on his nerves at first, but soon, together with her son Pablito, sneaks into his heart. And with Ricardo Tortorella (Mario Alarcón), the aged but still bewitchingly singing tango icon of yesteryear, Julio’s tango band finds a new voice and almost regains its former glory. Should Julio give up all of that for an economically secure life in Europe, where nobody is so passionate about tango and love?
