When Will Apple Move to USB-C? A Look at Remaining Lightning Products

Find out when Apple will switch to USB-C for all of its remaining Lightning products, including the iPhone, iPad, AirPods, Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, Magic Mouse, EarPods, and Powerbeats Pro. Apple’s Lightning port, introduced in 2012, has been on its way out since the European Parliament voted in favor of a new rule requiring all new phones and smaller electronics that use a cable to charge to be equipped with a USB-C port. Although the new rule technically only applies to new products sold in Europe, Apple will be making the switch globally. With the iPhone 14 being the last flagship model with a Lightning port, the next iPhone model, likely the iPhone 15, will come equipped with USB-C, which brings universal charging with your MacBook and iPad and also offers faster data transfers. The AirPods and AirPods Pro cases are also expected to receive USB-C updates, and Apple’s EarPods could soon see the same fate. Keep reading to learn more about which of Apple’s products may receive updates and when.
