“The Murder of Alexander Viktorovich Solonik: The Infamous Russian Mafia Superkiller”

In February 1997, a number of newspapers in Greece carried news on the murder of a mafia boss in the forest outskirts of Varybobi, Acharnes, East Atrica, or about 20 kilometers from Athens. The victim was Alexander Viktorovich Solonik, 37 years old, nicknamed the Superkiller. His body wrapped in plastic was found in a garbage dump by local residents on January 31, 1997.

When Solonik’s body was found, there were no identification marks on his body. His face was almost unrecognizable because it was burnt from being splashed with acid. Reported from Russian Beyond (RBTH), and Pravda.ru, the police only managed to find Solonik’s identity after matching Interpol’s wanted list (DPO) data. Solonik alias Sasha Makedonsky is one of the mafia bosses as well as an assassin who is respected by the Russian mafia and police.

Solonik escaped from Matrosskaya Tishina prison, Moscow, so he was declared a fugitive in 1996. In addition, he is being hunted gangster another Russian mobster who is angry and resentful of his actions. Anger came from mafia bosses who had hired Superkiller services to kill their rival mafia bosses.

The police had searched Solonik’s villa in the Lagonisi area, Attica, which is 30 km from Athens. In the villa, various types of firearms were found, both pistols and the Avtomat Kalashnikova 1947 (AK-47) assault rifle, which is usually used by the military. Solonik was found to have entered the Land of the Gods under a fake name on his passport obtained from the Greek Consulate in Moscow.

Three months later, the Greek police were again surprised by the discovery of a woman’s body. The corpse was cut into several parts that were put in a suitcase. The suitcase was buried under an olive tree in the forested outskirts of the town of Saronida, about 2 miles from Athens.

Quoted from the book Darkness at Dawn: The Rise of the Russian Criminal State by David Satter (2003), the mutilated corpse is the figure of Svetlana Kotova, a 22-year-old former Miss Russia 1996 finalist. His identity was revealed after the police matched data on family loss reports three months earlier or at the end of January 1997.
