Dresden (dpa/sn) – A major fire in a Dresden laundry caused the roof structure of the house to collapse on Thursday and triggered a complex fire brigade operation. In the building in the Pieschen district there are two tanks, some of which are filled with oil and diesel, the fire brigade announced in the evening. It was therefore possible to prevent the flames from spreading to the tanks. According to initial reports, no one was injured in the fire. The end of the mission is not expected until late at night, it said.

According to the information, the fire brigade was at the scene of the fire with 100 forces. According to the information, these protected the tanks from the flames from several sides. The fire brigade said that it was difficult to find your way around the house because it was very complex. The fire was finally brought under control around 9:30 p.m.

There was heavy smoke development. The smoke had moved in the direction of the Elbe Park and the city center. The smell of burning was noticeable throughout the city due to the weather conditions. The fire brigade asked the population to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off the ventilation and air conditioning systems.

Late in the evening, the fire brigade then announced that the smoke development had been significantly reduced and the odor nuisance was continuing to decrease. Measurements in the urban area have not yielded any critical results so far. However, the warning to the population remains in place until the residual extinguishing work has been completed.

The police have secured the scene extensively. According to the fire brigade, there were massive obstacles caused by onlookers, especially in the first phase of the operation.
