“Rising Prices of Meal Deals in London: A Concern for Working Class”

London ∙ Meal deals are like potichoru to the Malayalis. For the vast majority of English people, lunch is the meal deals available in supermarkets and grocery shops. It was cheap enough to find satisfaction in the lunchtime break and meal deals consisting of a sandwich, crisps and a drink. Three pounds at most.

Market surveys indicate that these meal deals have increased in price by up to 33 percent in the last one and a half years. Meal deals from popular brands such as Morrisons and Tesco have seen price hikes of over 30 per cent. Meal deals are up 18 per cent at Boots, 17 per cent at Sainsbury’s and 7 per cent at Co-operative Superstores. Meal deals are currently priced at over £5 in many stores across the City of London.

As a relief during the price hikes, Poundland launched a £2.50 meal deal, but it didn’t take off due to limited options and poor food quality. Shops and supermarket chains have launched meal deals to attract customers to overcome the high cost of buying sandwiches, crisps and drinks separately. This amount of profit is also unsustainable for the common office workers and factory workers in Britain.
