“San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora Discusses Regulating Water Use to Ease Crisis in Metro Manila”

San Juan City Mayor and METRO Manila Council chairman Francisco Javier “Francis” Zamora has vowed to discuss regulations on water usage in certain establishments in the National Capital Region to ease the ongoing water crisis, following the appeal by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) to local government units to come up with conservation plans. Zamora suggested guidelines and rules for large water-consuming establishments such as car washes, swimming pools, and golf courses. While he ruled out an immediate shutdown of these establishments, he highlighted the need to identify those necessary to retain and those that should be reduced. Zamora expressed his support for involving Metro Manila mayors in resolving the water crisis, as water concessionaires announce continuing service interruptions due to highly turbid water in Laguna Lake that has damaged ultrafiltration backwash valves at the Putatan Water Treatment Plant 2. Maynilad has encouraged affected customers to store sufficient water and scheduled service interruptions from April 25 to May 16 during which several areas in Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Pasay, and Cavite City, as well as Noveleta and Rosario towns in Cavite, will face supply cuts. Manila Water has also announced maintenance activities from April 27 to May 2 that will similarly affect water service in several areas in Pasig, Makati, Taguig, Parañaque, San Juan, Quezon City, and Cainta, Antipolo City, Angono, and Binangonan in Rizal.
