This Wednesday (26/4), the alvinegro team sought a 1-1 draw with Brasil-RS, away from home, and secured the classification. In the first leg of the third phase, Atlético had won 2-1, at Mineirão.
The confrontations of the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil will be defined by means of a draw at the headquarters of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), in Rio de Janeiro. The event should take place next Tuesday (2/5).
There are no pots, directions or offsides in the Round of 16 draw. Therefore, all teams can face each other.
The regulation, therefore, opens up the possibility that Atlético will face a classic with América or Cruzeiro, also guaranteed in the round of 16.
Other powerful teams in Brazilian football, such as Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense, could also be in Galo’s way.
Not all 16 participants in the round of 16 are defined. There are four vacancies left, which will be filled this Thursday (27/4), with the return duels of the third phase.
According to the CBF calendar, the round of 16 matches are scheduled for the weeks of May 17th and 31st.
