Diwali Declared National Holiday in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania: US Pennsylvania Senator Nikhil Saval tweeted that Diwali, the Indian festival, has been declared a national holiday. The Senate voted unanimously to recognize Diwali as an official holiday. “Welcome to all Pennsylvanians celebrating this festival of light and connection, and thank you @rothman_greg for this bill,” Senator Nikhil Saval tweeted.

My Twin Tires reported that State Senator Greg Rothman and Senator Nikhil Sawell introduced legislation to make Diwali an official holiday in Pennsylvania in February of this year. About 200,000 South Asians live in Pennsylvania, many of whom participate in Diwali as a time of reflection and togetherness, My Twin Tiers reported.

‘It is a time to reflect on the endless struggle of light over darkness, offering us a renewed clarity of purpose. This festival deserves official recognition and I am honored to join Senator Rothman in implementing it,” Saval added. Senate Bill 402 does not require school or government shutdowns, My Twin Tires reported.
