Of approximately 3,600 detainees, nearly 3,000 are in pre-trial detention. This is the result of a visit by the National Human Rights Commission to the Bamako central detention center on Tuesday, April 25 on the occasion of the African day of pre-trial detention. Placed under the seal of the monitoring of places of deprivation of liberty, the African day of pre-trial detention was commemorated this Tuesday, April 25 in Mali by a visit of the national human rights commission to the central detention center of Bamako and at the level of the investigation units in the capital. During this visit to the central prison, it was noted a certain insufficiency but also some violations of human rights, in particular on the situation of prison overcrowding. The CNDH through the voice of its president Aguibou Bouaré affirms that it will give itself another objective, that of sensitizing the judges to the awarding of warrants of deposit. This visit enabled the national human rights commission to visit a few detainees but also to talk to the prison administration, which also admits to suffering from this situation of prison overcrowding.
