Dear Neos!
“What about you?” Your party co-founder and ex-boss Matthias Strolz would probably say at this point. While he himself attracts attention with strange videos on the net and leaves viewers and listeners amazed or at a loss with his performance after politics, you as a party are also increasingly causing frowns. Your form curve is currently similar to that of FC Bayern Munich. It’s true that you’ve never made it to the top or had any major successes, but as with the people of Munich, you’re currently suffering from one setback after the other. Decisive matches and competitions are lost. Your spring balance is sobering: state elections in Lower Austria: 6.67%. Relegated to the league with a harmless addition and an insignificant role. State elections in Carinthia: 2.59%. Qualification or entry into the state parliament failed. State elections in Salzburg: 4.20%. Kicked out of the state parliament and government.
You are on the direct path to insignificance. There is still no external leadership debate, but you too must slowly ask yourself whether the direction is right and whether the leadership staff can still lead your party to success. I have my doubts. Because of the economically liberal orientation, the DNA of Neos, there is not much left to see. The image you stand for is washed out and no longer recognizable. Your unique selling proposition is gone. You have allowed yourselves to be carried away too much by left-wing daydreams in recent years and have thus turned your party compass upside down. But there are already plenty of left-wing ideas in this country. You don’t need the Neos for that. You gave free rein to developments within the party and did not intervene in time. From the self-proclaimed transparency and control party you have become Michael Ludwig’s stirrup holder overnight in Vienna City Hall and in parliament you have not gained popularity or sympathy in the competition with the SPÖ and the Greens for the better headline in the U-Committee. Now you are exactly where you are: declining approval, meager election results and no orientation.
The party leadership can also be held responsible for this finding. The New Austria, as you call yourselves, consists only of the smiling away of election slippers and of a small group of lone fighters. Everyone fights in a different direction. One asks oneself 10 years after the founding of your party: What do we actually need you for? The voters have already sent a clear signal in three federal states. Maybe you ask yourself “What about us?” instead of constantly going under with the Greens and the Reds in the race for left-wing ideas.
That’s not why you founded yourselves!
sincerely
Euer
