Recently, the famous British actor Sir Michael Caine (“Dirty Scoundrels”, “The Dark Knight”) celebrated his 90th birthday. The wife prepared a special gift for her husband.
In 1952, 19-year-old Michael Caine (then named Maurice Micklewhite) joined the army under a contract. After training in Germany as part of the British Expeditionary Force, he was sent to Korea, where the war was then going on. In the memoir What’s It All About? the actor recalls how he once found himself on the verge of death when he and two comrades were surrounded by North Koreans. Michael claims that he did not feel fear.
Kane’s 76-year-old wife, Shakira, after 71 years, decided to pay tribute to the courage of her beloved and give him a special gift. She contacted the infantry unit in which her husband served and asked to make two name plaques with a set of military medals for the Korean War.
– Probably, on the 100th anniversary I will receive orders, – Kane joked.
